.DISCUSSION...
(Tonight through next Saturday)
Issued at 1107 PM CDT Sat Apr 4 2026

Showers continue developing along and behind a slow moving cold
front boundary currently draped from sw to ne from sTX to swLA and
into cenMS. The front has lost most of its steam, as expected,
since upper trof has departed well into the OH valley. Winds north
of 190 are generally northerly, but with very little forcing comes
very little strength. Even so, lower dewpoints are already
filtering into cenLA, so we should largely see a cool but dreary
Easter Morning.

Cold air advection should really set in after sunrise when
diurnal processes enhance the pressure gradient between high in
the central Plains and departing front. Strong northeast winds
will develop during morning hours, ushering in cool dry air from
the north. Light, drizzly showers will linger into the first part
of the day, most primarily along and south of 190, but should
clear out as the morning / early afternoon roll on.

Winds should remain below Wind Advisory criteria, but will be
breezy. So for those traveling for the holiday or attending
outdoor events, keep in mind how the wind may blow around loose
objects/decor or make traffic difficult. These windy conditions
will improve by early evening.

High pressure dominates at least thru the mid week. High parks it
over the OH Valley region, keeping a fetch of easterlies situated
right on top of us. This isn`t a prevailing wind pattern we see
too frequently, which is a nice change! The cool and dry airmass
won`t moderate so quickly since easterly flow will keep an intake
of dry continental air over the start of the work week.

Temps will maintain in the 70s Sunday thru Thursday, starting
around 70-71F Sunday and bumping up a degree or two each day(or
so) thereafter.

High pressure shifts further east Wednesday and Thursday. With
winds turning back onshore and under falling heights, we could see
a return of very low rain chances by mid to late week.

(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 622 AM CDT Sun Apr 5 2026

Cold front has moved through the terminals with northerly winds
now in place. Some over-riding showers will persist through mid
morning with IFR/MVFR ceilings hang around until around 05/19z.

VFR conditions are expected through the afternoon into this
evening as low clouds dissipate with just high level clouds
remaining into tonight.

Gusts winds from the northeast between 20 and 25 knots can be
expected until sunset or around 06/00z.

.MARINE...
Issued at 1107 PM CDT Sat Apr 4 2026

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue into Sunday as a
cold front lingers over north Gulf waters. The front should be
departing late Sunday, bringing an end to rain chances from north
to south. To send off this front, strong offshore winds will
develop swiftly Sunday morning and will persist through at least
mid day Monday. Seas will quickly respond to these winds and a
Small Craft Advisory for hazardous sea conditions begins for all
waters at 7 AM. Strongest winds will miss low tide times, so low
water conditions are not anticipated at this time.

Winds will fall into late Monday as high pressure sets up to the
north. This setup will persist over the midweek. A prolonged
period of elevating easterlies from Tuesday through the end of the
week will result in progressively building seas and possibly even
very dangerous sea states for marine vessels.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 1107 PM CDT Sat Apr 4 2026

Light showers will persist into Sunday as a weak cold front
lingers over the region. Strong northeast winds will develop
after sunrise today bringing rain chances to an end from north to
south as well as delivering a much cooler and drier airmass into
the region. Eye level winds will prevail around 10 to 20 MPH with
higher gusts possible during daytime hours today.

High pressure will set up to the north from Sunday and beyond.
Winds will prevail northeast into late Monday before turning to
and prevailing as strong easterlies Tuesday to the end of the
week.

Without a direct flow off the Gulf, dry air will remain in place
for several days. The driest airmass days are Monday and Tuesday
with min RH values 20 to 30 percent expected. Drought conditions
likely did not improve enough with Saturday`s low totals to limit
fire concerns at the start of the work week.
